HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -Girls from across Hattiesburg came out to Bliss Bridal in hopes of getting the perfect prom dress at the second annual Prom-A-Palooza on Sunday.
“We all know how expensive prom dresses can be,” said Tyra Willamore, Spirit Girls coordinator. "This is a great way for us to outreach to the girls in the area and give them the opportunity to go to prom. Every girl deserves to go to prom.”
There were five racks of dresses ranging in sizes for girls to choose from and the best part--- it was only a $12 rental fee. Prom-A-Palooza is hosted by the Forrest General Spirit Girls in hopes of helping girls who can’t get a prom dress.
“People usually think it’s about the money and the prom dresses and all this stuff," explained Spirit Girl Ella Seymour. "People think that if you don’t have that then you can’t part take in this amazing event (and) that you only get to partake in two years out of your whole life. I feel like this is a good opportunity to give girls who wouldn’t have the chance otherwise, a prom dress and a great night.”
Bliss Bridal was this year’s host for the event. Employees there say seeing the look on the girls face when they found their dress was heartwarming.
“To me, it just melts my heart,” explained Bliss Bridal manager Erin Crowell. “I’ve always had a soft place in my heart for just making a young lady happy. To see them (and) how excited they are about finding a dress they love for such a fun night, it’s awesome.”
More than 70 dresses were rented at this year’s Prom-A-Palooza. The remaining dresses will be packed up and put away until next year’s event.
