Volunteers help rebuild Petal family’s home after 2017 tornado

PETAL, MS (WDAM) - A Petal family who’s lived in their home all their lives before the 2017 tornado are steps closer to calling it home sweet home once again.

Non-profit organization, R3SM, now work to Rebuild their 28th home since the deadly twister hit the Pine Belt.

Volunteers from Chicago, Illinois said they were enjoying the warm weather of South Mississippi as they put the hammer to the nail at the home on Bennett Street.

Orlind Park Christian Reform church founded in Chicago donated a sizable donation to complete the home.

Mavis Creagh with R3SM said they still need more volunteers and resources as the rebuild continues.

The disaster fund is still open with the Greater Pine Belt Foundation if you would like to contribute to the recovery efforts.
