Judge grants bond for former accountant convicted of tax crimes

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Bond has been set for the former Hattiesburg account convicted of tax crimes in federal court last week.

Magistrate Judge Michael Parker set Carl Nicholson’s bond at $50,000 during a hearing Tuesday morning.

On Friday, a jury found Nicholson guilty on 11 charges, including conspiracy to defraud the United States government, four counts of false statement on income tax return and six counts of willfully aiding/assisting in preparation of false tax returns.

Nicholson’s sentencing hearing is set for May 23, 2019. He faces a maximum of 35 years in prison.
