BRANDON, MS (WDAM) - The Sacred Heart boys and girls soccer teams claimed the 1A/2A/3A state titles Saturday in Brandon.
It was familiar ground for the Lady Crusaders as defeated St. Andrew’s Episcopal 2-0, claiming their 6th state title in the last 7 years. Gracie Falla sent a free kick to Olivia Ware, who lofted a shot over the goalkeeper’s head to giving Sacred Heart their first score of the game.
Senior Blair Viator scored the Lady Crusaders’ final goal with a 25-yard floater over the goalkeeper.
“It’s history, it’s really history,” Sacred Heart girls soccer coach Joe “Papa” Falla said. “Bill Belichick, I’m right there with him.”
“Every year you get more excited just to keep on adding to the dynasty,” Sophomore forward Olivia Ware said.
“Playing as a team, and everybody’s like uplifting everyone,” Senior midfielder Blair Viator said. “We don’t rely on just one person. We all play together.”
The girls stuck around to cheer on the boys, who also took on St. Andrew’s Episcopal for the state title.
Junior midfielder Garrett Bell scored on a penalty kick in the 43rd minute of the second half giving the Crusaders a 1-0 victory and their first state title since 2013.
