RUSTON, LA (WDAM) _ Snap.
Louisiana Tech University senior guard Kierra Anthony blistered the nets for 45 points Saturday afternoon as the Lady Techsters buried the University of Southern Mississippi under an avalanche of points to take a 106-81 Conference USA victory at Thomas Assembly Center.
After posting a 29-point second quarter, La. Tech scored 60 points in the second half to overwhelm the Lady Eagles, who had not allowed a conference opponent more than 71 points this season.
But the Lady Eagles (13-11, 5-6 C-USA), who saw a four-game winning streak snapped, had few answers for Anthony, who hit 19 of 30 shots from the floor, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. She came up with seven steals, six assists and four rebounds.
Anthony was backed by sophomore guard Amber Dixon, who scored all 17 points in the second-half onslaught. Dixon added five assists and three steals.
Tech freshman guard Briana Harris had 13 points and four rebounds.
Southern Miss junior point guard Shonte Hailes tried to match Anthony, hitting 10-of-15 shots on her way to a career-high 30 points. She also had four assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Freshman guard Daishai Almond scored 13 points for the Lady Eagles and junior Respect Leaphart had 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
But USM turned the ball over 25 times, and Tech (13-11, 5-6) cashed those in for 37 points to win its third consecutive game.
The Lady Eagles will head to San Antonio, Texas, Thursday to take on the University of Texas-San Antonio in a 7 p.m. showdown.
