HOT COFFEE, MS (WDAM) - Covington County is buying nearly seven acres of land near Hot Coffee that was owned by the Mississippi Forestry Commission.
Covington County supervisors this week approved a bid from District 5 of $102,750.00 to purchase the property, which had been used as a nursery and as an auction site for state vehicles.
District 5 supervisor Arthur keys wants to use it for either sports fields, a community shelter or for storage.
Several old wooden and metal buildings are located on the land.
“The old buildings that we can’t use, we’ll tear them down and refurbish the ones that we can put to use,” said Keys. “I’m sure after all is said and done, once we get it perfected and cleaned up, the people of Covington County will be very proud of what we’ve done here.”
Keys said he’ll seek state grants to help develop the property.
