Petal school hosts first Vex IQ Robotics competition

PETAL, MS (WDAM) - Students from all over the state came to the friendly city Saturday for the first-ever robotics competition at Petal Primary School.

This Vex IQ competition had teams from Petal, Gulfport, Columbus and Oak Grove. Competitors were in 2nd through 6th grades. This was the first year for Petal to hosts the competition.

“It teaches teamwork, it teaches discipline,” Petal Teacher/Robotics League Coach Paige Perkins said. “The thing that I like most that it teaches is that it teaches kids how to fail and then it teaches them how to work through it.”

“Well, two things I like about it are building the robot and driving it and scoring the points,” 3rd Grade competitor Reid Tryner said.

“I think it’s really fun driving the robot and having fun with your friends and teammates,” 3rd Grade competitor Anderson Schoggin said.
