PINE BELT, MS (WDAM) - This morning’s winter weather across the Pine Belt disappointed a lot of people. Some felt it wasn’t what it cracked up to be while others were delighted to see snowfall, even if it only lasted a few hours.
So what happened?? Overnight, the cold air moved in slower than originally expected, which meant that the band of snow was much smaller. Because the air was slower to move in, it also allowed the precipitation to out run it. By the time the snowband made it to central part of the Pine Belt, the rain had outran the cold air, which put an end to the snow.
Areas north and west of Hattiesburg did in fact see a dusting of snow but melted shortly thereafter.Unfortunately, that’s how it goes with winter weather in the Pine Belt. You truly don’t know exactly what will happen until the event happens. It’s kind of like Plinko on “The Price Is Right” you don’t know where the Plinko Chip will land until it actually hits the bottom.
