USM faces important two-game home swing

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The expectations are rising inside Reed-Green Coliseum.

Golden Eagle basketball is 11-8 and still in the Conference USA race at 3-4. USM hosts Western Kentucky (10-9, 3-3 C-USA) on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Marshall (12-7, 5-1 C-USA) on Saturday at 4 p.m.

"We finally have a team that can compete, so each and every game is big,” said USM head coach Doc Sadler. “And that's one thing that this team hasn't experienced because in the past, not every game has been big. Now when you're trying to compete for a championship, each and every game becomes big. If you're going to compete for championships, you gotta take care of homecourt advantage. That's why this weekend is huge."

“We know we can compete,” said USM senior guard Cortez Edwards, who leads the team with an average of 13.5 points per game. “Most games, besides the Old Dominion, it’s been five, below five points. Just two plays in the last four minutes, one or two plays go our way, we can win any game.”
