HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) _ Former University of Southern Miss baseball coach Corky Palmer will join members of USM’s 2009 College World Series squad to serve as guest speakers at this year’s “1st Pitch Banquet."
The annual event is set for Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Thad Cochran Center. Registration begins at 5 p.m., with the banquet starting at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $25 and seating is limited to the first 400 people.
This year will mark the 10th anniversary of the Golden Eagles’ magical run to close out the 2009 campaign under Palmer’s leadership.
USM won the school’s first regional and super-regional championships before advancing to the mecca of college baseball, the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.
The Golden Eagles (40-26) finished No. 8 in the final national rankings in one of the most successful seasons for any sport in the school’s athletics history.
USM is gearing up for the 2019 season, which begins Feb. 15-17, at home against Big 10 Conference member Purdue University.
