HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Just a week after offensive line coach Erik Losey and strength and conditioning coach SaJason Finley were relieved of their duties at Southern Miss, another piece to the Golden Eagle offense is on the move.
Shannon Dawson joins Houston as an offensive assistant, the University announced via a press release on Friday night.
Dawson leaves USM after three years as offensive coordinator. In his first two seasons, the Eagles averaged nearly 450 yards per game and 31 points per game. Southern Miss set a school record for total offensive yards (702) against Rice in October 2016.
In his final season at USM, Dawson’s offense averaged just 366 yards and 24.9 points per game.
Dawson rejoins Dana Holgorsen in Houston after the two coached together for four years at West Virginia (2011-2014).
