ELLISVILLE _ Five Lady Bobcats scored at least 10 points as No. 9 Jones College resumed South Division play with a 74-61 victory Thursday night over Hinds Community College at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
Freshman guard Jatyjia Jones scored 14 points for JC (10-1, 2-0 South), which never trailed in picking up its eighth consecutive victory .
The Lady Bobcats led 9—0 and 14-3 before settling for a 19-9 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs (5-5, 0-2) pulled with 27-25 in the second quarter before the Lady Bobcats pulled away to 40-31 halftime lead.
JC led 55-49 to open the fourth quarter and pushed the lead out to 67-53 with 4 minutes, 33 seconds, to play on a jumper by freshman guard Keyara Jones.
Hinds would pull 68-60, but that’s as close as the Lady Bulldogs got.
Keyara Jones, the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior’s Colleges’ reigning Player of the Week, finished with 11 points.
Sophomore forward Maya Jones and freshman forward LaMiracle Sims each finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore center Kyla Weathersby added nine points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Breonca Ducksworth scored two points while handing out 11 assists and coming up with four steals.
Hinds got 17 points from sophomore guard Victoria Johnson, 11n points from sophomore forward Nakaylis Washington and 10 points from sophomore forward Deja Moore.
The Lady Bobcats will visit archrival Pearl River Community College at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Poplarville.
