HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg Zoo began its winter schedule Friday and will continue until February 28.
Gates will be open Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. All animals can be seen year-round if weather permits.
“Each day, keepers assess weather conditions. When the temperature is too cold for animals to enjoy their outdoor exhibit, they will stay indoors in their warm, off-exhibit holding,” said Stephen Taylor, Animal Care Manager.
The zoo said the Asbury Discovery Center will be open for guests to warm up during visits on cooler days. Outdoor heaters have also been placed throughout the park.
The education department will be hosting informative programs throughout the year, such as “Inside Out," which the zoo said is an on-site learning adventure available to schools in the Hattiesburg area. The program is free and features snakes, arachnids and other animals.
“Story Time” will also take place every Friday morning in January and February in the education room. Each week will feature a different story at 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and will feature an animal. The program is also free.
