Two dead after overnight fire in Greene County
Johnnie and Teresa Nelson died after their trailer caught fire in Greene County Thursday.

GREENE COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Greene County Coroner Ladd Pulliam confirmed the identities of two fire victims.

Johnnie Nelson, 66, and Teresa Nelson, 64, died Thursday after a small trailer on Neely Avera Road caught fire.

Fire chief Ray Dixon with the Neely Volunteer Fire Department said the call came in around midnight. Johnnie awakened to flames in the trailer. He tried to rescue his wife Teresa from the fire, when he couldn’t he ran to a neighbors to call for help.

Johnnie was so severely burned that he was air lifted to to the Burn Center at USA Hospital in Mobile. He was removed from life support later Thursday.

The fire marshal is still investigating what caused the fire.
