MACON, MS (WLBT) - An escaped inmate in Kemper County led law enforcement on a wild high-speed chase with shots being fired -- and it was all caught on video.
According to WTOK, 29-year-old Terry Pierce Jr. escaped police custody at the Noxubee County Community Work Center in Macon leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.
Kemper County Sheriff James Moore says the suspect stole a truck and led agencies down Highway 45. He says authorities had Pierce pinned in at Highway 16 and Highway 45, when there was an exchange of gunfire, which was all captured on video from a witness at a gas station nearby.
At that point, the suspect drove off and attempted to hit a deputy.
"Gunfire was exchanged to try and take the vehicle out. He was able to get out of the way of the officers and back onto Highway 45. He spun out and, by that time, two more sheriff's deputies pinned his car in with theirs," Moore says.
Moore tells WTOK that one of his deputies is in the hospital due to injuries sustained in the wreck. He is expected to be okay.
Pierce was serving 15 years out of Pearl River County for aggravated assault and fleeing and eluding in 2009.
