PETAL, MS (WDAM) - Faculty and staff gathered Monday morning in Petal High School’s Performing Arts Center for a celebration and the announcement of the Petal School District’s teachers and administrator of the year.
After a prayer to welcome everyone back for the New Year, a teacher from each Petal school was chosen as teacher of the year.
Sarah McClure, of Petal Primary School, earned the award for overall teacher of the year. Teachers gave her a standing ovation while holding up signs of support. A quote from one voter described her saying, “Sarah has a positive attitude, engaging personality and a willingness to work with others.”
The other teachers recognized are Brandon McLain, of Petal Elementary School, Tyler Shows, of Petal Upper Elementary, Jaqueline Ashby, of Petal Middle School, and Sue Sorensen, of Petal High School.
The administrator of the year award went to Athletic Director Marcus Boyles. A voter said Boyles, “Helps students see a future beyond high school and helps them develop and achieve goals.”
Superintendent Matt Dillon continued the program with a powerful pep talk as teachers enter the second semester of the school year.
The keynote speaker for the welcome back celebration was Jim Mahoney, founder of RedBrick Hill. The “longtime educator and entrepreneur” delivered an energetic speech to amp up Petal teachers for a successful semester.
