COLLINS, MS (WDAM) - Hard liquor will be sold legally for the first time in Collins this year, but officials can’t say when exactly.
They say the State Alcohol Beverage Control is reviewing three permit applications for package stores.
One of those stores would be on Highway 49 north of downtown.
City officials are also working on an ordinance to regulate sales in restaurants.
Voters approved alcohol sales last October.
“As far as an ordinance goes, it’s still a work in progress,” said Suzette Davis, city clerk. “We plan to do an ordinance, we want to take our beer ordinance and combine it and make it an alcohol-beer ordinance.”
“We just want to take and update the beer ordinance and make sure that everything is the same and it’s time to look at it, to do some updating," Davis said.
Davis said all three permit applicants would build on property that is already zoned commercial.
