Earl Davis was serving a 20 year sentence after being convicted of manslaughter and aggravated assault.

VICKSBURG, MS (WDAM) - Another inmate has died in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, bringing the total to 15 deaths in the month of August, according to our sister station WLBT.

WLBT reported that Green County Coroner Ladd Pulliam confirmed Earl Davis, 55, died at 12:52 p.m. on Thursday at Promise Hospital in Vicksburg.

Davis was serving 20 years at South Mississippi Correctional Institution in Leakesville after being sentenced to 10 years for manslaughter in September 2008 and 10 more years for aggravated assault in February 2009, according to MDOC. Both convictions were out of Lauderdale County.

Pulliam said Davis had been hospitalized for a short period of time, according to WLBT. He said Davis' pending cause of death is a natural one, and he does not suspect foul play.
